Photo emulsion advanced stencil creation screen-printing by allowing artists to create exact replicas of photography onto their screen relatively quickly and easily. This made the product produced crisper and more effectively reproduced prints. This is how we will transfer our images onto our screens for our prints.
Photo emulsion is a process that uses light exposure to transfer images from paper or transfers to a screen covered in photo emulsion chemicals. The process is simple and relatively quick and allows artists to transfer complex (or simple) images to a screen without having to re-draw the image. This process makes transferring photographs or intricate designs to screens possible. Using the photo emulsion technique, I was able to transfer a drawing I did on paper onto my screen and create many prints from the screen. It also allowed me to break the image into layers and use different colors.
Photo emulsion is similar to the use of winter green in photography. It is a technique that allows you to copy and print an image. One of the advantage of this would be layering multiple images. You could take two photos and print one on top of another. Also, it is a very precise way of getting the image you are going for. What I think it would be helpful for would be adding typography (like a caption) to an image.
Photo emulsion has advanced the concept of stencils for it gives one the ability to create stencils out of an array of images (whether they were drawn, painted or even photos). In creating the process one is given the ability to use various mediums combined to make once stencil. I personally will be using this to create stencils out of my sharpie drawings. Although it may take time to learn how to effectively use this capability to the fullest, given how thin my lines are, I look forward to learning more about it this semester.
